B. Back to Basics on Air Movers and Dehumidifiers, Chuck Boutall, Air Quality Specialist. Air movers have changed. They come in different sizes, shapes and capacities. We will demo hands on how to select air movement devices for a variety of projects. Decide from airflow versus air pressure and noise level versus power consumption. Use all the current factors when you are going to purchase equipment. The S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration update on air mover counts will also be reviewed and discussed. How do Dehumidifiers work?  Is there a difference between Desiccant, LGR, and HTLGR units? Which unit is the best fit for the job? How do they actually work? Come join us as we will break down their operations, where they work out the best and discuss true drying power.
C. Racing to Win: Running a Successful Restoration Sales Organization, Tim Miller, Business Development Associates. Many restorers hire outside salespeople to either drive the growth of their business or to reduce what in many cases is extreme vulnerability to TPA work, waiting for weather or good luck. And, there is no faster way to grow your restoration business to the next level than by creating a sales organization - even of just one salesperson!

But, as the saying goes, “if you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there”. This presentation will teach restorers how to run a high performance sales organization (of even one rep) so that the maximum sales potential and return on investment is achieved. Attendees will understand the specific roadmap and benchmarks to step-by-step actually accomplish the ultimate revenue goals of the sales department.

Topics including salesperson compensation, realistic goal setting, activity benchmarks and specific accountability processes, real-world CRM implementation, how to structure a sales management process, specific owner communication touchpoints to produce the highest levels of motivation and engagement will all be covered. Three Learning Objectives:
  • Attendees will learn to set realistic sales goals based on industry benchmarks and how to work backwards to create a roadmap to accomplish their sales goals through a set of daily, monthly and annual sales activities.

  • Attendees will understand how to use data to drive accountability and outstanding sales performance with very little time investment.

  • Attendees will be provided a comprehensive knowledge of all of the components of building a high-performance sales team in terms of what systems, processes and structures need to be installed in their company and how to accomplish that.

E. Telling the Story, When, How and Why to Use a 3rd Party Flooring Inspector, Robert Blochinger, Blochinger and Company. In my previous life I did work in the water and fire loss arena and understand the work, I get it. Currently, we work in flooring inspections and restoration for insurance companies to declare causation after a water loss, RH test concrete prior to new flooring installation, basically I either find causation of failure, previous condition, installation related or actual damage due to loss, all about Insurance Co, do they pay or not. The flip side is assisting the Restorer in upgrading work due to conditions preventing a good install, substrate or site conditions, and/or saving them from being blamed.

Third party providers can be a blessing or a curse depending on where you are in your business and which third party providers you decide to work with. Not all third party providers are the same, understanding the differences can impact your decision as to if they are a good fit for you or not. Understanding how a TPA works and your commitment to their requirements will gauge your level of success and profits.
3:15 - 4:30 pm KEYNOTE: The Fastest Way To Turn Around Your Business, Mark Kennedy of Levels of Success Program and Lisa Wagner of RugChick.com.  The cleaning industry is an “accidental” industry. Most cleaners did not grow up dreaming about running a cleaning company. They came into the field on many different paths, learning from the school of hard knocks, and figuring it out along the way. As a result, many in the field feel that though they are excellent at the technical side of the craft, maybe they are not as excellent at the “business” side of it.

There is no big mystery around how to build a successful business. There are a few critical components that once you have dialed in and on track, you have a consistently growing and profitable company. Two of those components are sales and marketing. There is no better, faster, and more effective way to make money than to get your company’s sales and marketing on track.

Join Mark and Lisa as they share the most powerful sales and marketing systems at the foundation of the most profitable companies in the cleaning and restoration industry today. Whether you are new in the industry, or a long-timer, you will walk away with simple proven steps to take immediately in your company to create a huge positive boost to your bottom line.

E. Practical Leadership - Your Key To Success, Scott Humphrey, CEO World Floor Covering Association. Leadership is the subject matter for more books than any other topic. More seminars each year are given on leadership than all other trainings combined. How is it with so many resources and all of this data available, so many in positions of leadership are missing the mark? So many are striving for success while losing the opportunity to influence those who can help them achieve it.

In this session Scott Humphrey, CEO of The WFCA will be sharing practical advice on how you can energize the leader within you and positively influence the performance of your entire team. He will share how he has used his leadership influence to positively impact the WFCA and the flooring industry. He will touch on leadership traits that impact you both personally and professionally. He will share real life scenarios of those who have taken on the challenge of leadership and succeeded, and then show you how to apply their principles and success to your situation.

By discussing our need to change in order to lead and providing practical steps to do so, Scott will leave you with the foundation necessary to positively impact the remainder of 2018 and the many years of success that lie before you. You will leave this seminar inspired and believing that better leadership is attainable and the success it offers is found in foundational principles that are common sense, just not common practice.

10:35 - 11:25 am F. FALSE NEGATIVES - The Challenge of Remediation’s Alternative Facts, Scott Armour, environmental health science consultant, international remediation expert, Vice-Chair of the S520 Professional Mold Remediation Standard, and sworn enemy of bad science, takes a critical look at Top Remediation Facts that are confusing, difficult to learn, or just aren’t quite true. The challenge for remediators now and in the near future is to stand out from the competition. To do so, they must know the facts. Quality performance should be based on science, logic, statistics, and sometimes, hard work. So why are so many alternative facts being sold daily by restoration contractors and mold assessors? And why won’t they go away?

There are things we know to be true. And there are things we know are just plain false. Right? So why is getting quality remediation so difficult in our industry? First, we must agree on the facts. This should be easy.  This presentation will be a quick review of “just the facts” followed by a lively and possibly contentious participant-driven discussion. So bring your inquiring minds! After attending this whirlwind presentation, you can be confident that whenever anyone tells you something about mold remediation, you will know to ask the penetrating questions, “Why?” and “So What?"

Hot topics include:

  1. Mold Assessments with no Samples – deductive logic for finding mold.
  2. Chemistry and microbiology of Bleach and other Disinfectants: each do something, none do it all.
  3. Fogging with magic potions, what a scam.
  4. Determining when clean is clean enough – the “10x better than yesterday” rule.
  5. Air Sampling for clearance - why not just a good visual exam?
  6. Third Party IEP’s needed for PRV, medical complaints and other things.
  7. ERMI - loading vs concentration. What to say when doctors (and clients) demand you do an ERMI analysis.
  8. A few things about Mycotoxins and mVOC’s – they’re the same, right?
  9. Why some Occupants stay sick after remediation.
  10.  80% of patients diagnosed with mold-related health complaints have Significant Mold Problems in their home or office. An introductory survey.
  11. PLUS, a special Bonus 11th topic: The Secret Ingredient All Mold Remediators must use.

11:25 am - 12:15 pm

H. Wood Floors: Important Facts for Cleaning and Restoration, Roy Reichow – National Wood Floor ConsultantsAs the market for wood floor professional services has grown over the past few years, many hard surface and carpet cleaning companies are expanding their services to include wood floors.  It is important to have a great understanding of the different types of wood and wood finishes along with the proper care procedures for each finish.  Many times hard surface professionals do not have the experience and knowledge with wood flooring and the varying finishes and their attempts to clean result in disaster if the improper cleaning system is used.  This class will discuss the various types of wood floor species, solid and engineered manufactured floor systems, different finishes and cleaning processes, along with proper humidity requirements.

Many times a restoration company is called in to restore a wood floor that has experienced water intrusion or other damage.  This seminar will educate you on drying methods, ways to determine restoring or replacing of floor, and the proper timeline essential to prevent further problems down the road.

I.  Sonny Ahuja, Killitonline.com, 7 Rules of Maximizing Lead Generation and Outranking Your Competitors on Google. In order to increase your revenue and profits from Google, you must ALWAYS work on:
  1. Dominating the top 3 positions, while
  2. Reducing your cost per lead

Everything else is secondary to these two main goals. Until this goal is completed, nothing else should matter to you.  With 9 years of experience in the Restoration & Cleaning industry, Sonny Ahuja will share his formula that will show you how to outrank your competitors and double or triple your online lead generation while driving a positive ROI. Don't miss it!

J. Drying Mastery Workshop - Part 1 - What is your documentation telling you about dehumidification? Reets Drying Academy, Jeremy Reets. Temperature, relative humidity, GPP, vapor pressure, dew point, grain depression. Restorers are recording this information but what that drying documentation is really telling you is a language that most have not mastered. Jeremy Reets will teach you to decipher what the documentation from your drying projects is telling you about dehumidification. In a workshop-style presentation you will learn better how to deploy and adjust dehumidification on your projects based on what your documentation is telling you.
